If you are interested in becoming a Unite representative, the first stop should be to speak with your colleagues that you know to be members of Unite, as you will have to be nominated in your workplace.

Once you have spoken with your colleagues,  get in touch with your local office to speak with your Regional Officer. They are the official who will help guide you through this process, and will also be able to support you alleviating problems.

Now you have spoken with the officer, and have been elected by the members,  it is time to get trained.

Our four core representatives are :
You can do as many representative courses as you like, but remember that you must complete at least one in order to be an accredited workplace representative.

Each of these courses come with a Professional Development Award and are delivered in partnership with Fife College. You can also go onto gain an HNC in Trade Union Organising and Representation if you complete all 4 courses and undertake an additional course in Practical Skills and Trade Union Employer Relations.

You can also top up your knowledge with additional training offered to reps, these include :
  • Understanding Pensions
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Branch Secretary / Branch Officials Courses

We can also run bespoke courses and bite-sized training upon request. Just speak with your local officer or email us to find out more.

Remember that we also offer Lifelong Learning Courses that are offered not just to reps, but for all members, and can be a good tool to recruit new members by offering them new skills, or simply a chance to sharpen up some old ones.
